Build with AI
Connect your coding assistant to current payment documentation, then review and test what it builds.
Start with the documentation connection
The NMI Developer Docs MCP searches and reads developer documentation. It needs no merchant account or authentication and cannot inspect your gateway records. There is no separate Betterpay MCP service in this guide. Use this connection to help write an integration. It does not establish that generated code works or that your merchant supports a feature.
Connect Claude Code
Run the documented command. Add --scope user if you want it across projects; inspect the connection with claude mcp list. claude mcp add --transport http nmi-developer-documentation https://docs.nmi.com/mcp claude mcp list
Connect VS Code
Merge this entry into .vscode/mcp.json. Preserve any existing servers. { "servers": { "nmi-developer-documentation": { "type": "http", "url": "https://docs.nmi.com/mcp" } } }
Connect Cursor
Merge this entry into ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Open a new assistant conversation after configuration. { "mcpServers": { "nmi-developer-documentation": { "url": "https://docs.nmi.com/mcp" } } }
Give the assistant a bounded task
Recommended project workflow: make the assistant explain its assumptions before it changes payment logic. Start with a small checkout slice and an acceptance checklist. Ask it to retrieve the current token-sale contract and identify the fields your order supplies. Ask for a server-owned amount, private credentials outside the browser and explicit unknown-outcome handling. Review the proposed changes and dependency names against the retrieved evidence. Run local checks, then validate the intended flow in sandbox. Retain evidence and investigate uncertain results before repeating a charge. Help me build a sandbox token-payment flow. First retrieve the relevant documentation. Identify browser and server responsibilities, unresolved account assumptions, and the approval, decline, and uncertain-response tests. Do not send a payment or change account configuration.
